Transformers Or Conformers?

There are movies that were released called “Transformers” that were mechanical beings that transformed themselves to “adapt” to the world as we know it. This however is not a new concept for in the book of Romans 12:1-2 , Paul calls on believers who are justified, sanctified and glorified in Christ to transformation by the renewing of their minds. In other words, be changed from within by a “new way” of thinking. We become “transformers” instead of “conformers” to the “God less” systems of this world.

Romans 12:1-2 (NCV)
1  So brothers and sisters, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him, which is the spiritual way for you to worship.
2  Do not change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.

The MSG Bible has some language that may bring a better meaning to those who have a “world view” of being a believer in Christ means and what “a living sacrifice” really means.

Notice:Romans 12:1 (MSG)
1  So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.

It appears to me that transformation of the believer by the truth, power and grace of God working in the believer creates a “new creature” 2 Cor. 5:17  that is a “transformer” or a transformed believer. Many times we quote 1 Cor.11:1 in the KJV Bible. 1 Corinthians 11:1 (KJV)
1  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1 (NCV)
1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Galatians 2:20 (NCV)
20  I was put to death on the cross with Christ, and I do not live anymore—it is Christ who lives in me. I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself to save me.

I am persuaded that the Apostle Paul was transformed and that the gospel of Christ is a transformational doctrine. Believer’s lives are changed in the here and now and eternal life can be received. It is obvious that the Apostle taught the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:26-28 (NIV)
26  Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of all men.
27  For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
28  Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

Are you a transformer or conformer? Are we conformed or transformed believer?
