Philippians 1:20 (NCV)
20 I expect and hope that I will not fail Christ in anything but that I will have the courage now, as always, to show the greatness of Christ in my life here on earth, whether I live or die.
Happy New Year everyone!
After many New Year Resolutions were expressed, even my own I asked to be more effective in my ministry in the coming year in all things but when I looked at this verse, I wondered if I was really asking the right thing? Was I asking for my glory or for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ?
Paul an Apostle of Christ is in prison and is writing to the Philippians. In this verse under the shadow of death, he expresses the bottom line for all Christians. It does not refer to his physical condition or living arrangement or how he is being treated. The Apostle is content and his goal is not rooted in the pleasures of comforts of this life.
The Apostle Paul had positive expectations and hope about his future in spite of present unfavorable conditions. V(20a). Attitude determines altitude. In order to meet the challenges of life, our mindset must always be positive. Paul desire was “not to fail Christ” in anything” and that he would have courage in his present situation as he always demonstrated in the past
The bottom line that the Apostle expressed is to show the greatness of Christ in his life here on earth, whether he lived or died. Perhaps many of us should take a look at our New Year’s Resolution and modify it to express that we may always show the “ greatness of Christ in our life “ whether we live or die.
Have Blessed And Happy New Year!
