Romans 6:22-23 (NASB)
22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
There can’t be an understanding of our enslavement or our becoming “slaves to sin” or slaves to God without understanding the idea of who or what we devote our lives. The apostle Paul is not talking about individual sins but the power off sin over our flesh.
There is a “personal evil power” over the body/flesh of every human born although the body itself is not full of sin like some suggest.. When a person obeys the gospel of God, God gives that believer the Holy Spirit that is a “new spirit” in us as the Apostle Peter refers to as the “divine nature” that we share in in 2 Peter 1:4.
The apostle Paul asks the question in Romans 6:2:
Romans 6:2 (NASB)
2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
This verse suggest that how can you be dead to a person. place or thing still live in sin(under the power of sin) it. Death in this instance mean to be separated from. When Christ died one time for all time He arose from the dead with power over death, sin and the devil and following after the Holy Spirit, we have the same power. (Romans 8:2).
If we died to the “power of the USA, then what rules and laws that are over the people of the USA does not affect us who are dead to that power. The USA can no longer govern my behavior.
The Lord Jesus Christ in Matt. 28:18 said: Matthew 28:18 (NASB)
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
From Slaves To Sin To Slaves of God
Romans 6:15-18 (NASB)
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!
16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,
18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
The word slaves is not politically correct in the 21st Century but if i use a word that we all know well, it would be addiction. The power of sin choice vs the Power of God choice. The choice of the One and only True God that leads to freedom from the deathly addiction of a “godless life to the choice of a total deprave assistance in the now and eternal destruction in the here after. The sin system will take you for a “death trip” period. It has no other option.
The Lord Jesus Christ said :
John 10:10 (NASB)
10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
A life of love, peace and joy enslaved to righteousness or a life of depravity enslaved to sin. It’s our choice.
