Our key verse for abundance begins with Matt. 6:33 in which Jesus urges those who are listening to His sermon on the mount to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first and all the needs of food clothing and shelter would be meet. As we know that in Christ Jesus we are promised that all our need would be met.
Now in Matt 6:33 we find the righteousness:
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
The Bible tells us that the righteousness here is a possession of God. This righteousness source is God. It is not so much that which comes by obeying the Law of the Old Testament but that which is imputed to us when we obey the gospel of Christ or the Gospel of God.
When we have our sins forgiven according to the gospel of Christ, we obtained the righteousness of God as a gift by faith in the finished work of Christ who died on a Roman cross for our sins.
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
In Romans 1:16-17 we see that Paul preached that this “righteousness of God” is contained in the gospel of Christ. Romans 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
The Apostle Paul writes in .1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
When the world speaks of abundance, it speaks of an abundance of material things.. like money, cars etc. When we have true abundance, it consist of more then things but also the joy, love and peace with God.
When you become a Christian according to the righteousness of God in the gospel of Christ, the Love of God is shed abroad in your heart.
Romans 5:1 (KJV)
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 5:5 (KJV)
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
The Holy Ghost that we receive gifts us with a truly abundant life. Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
As you can now see…why do you labor and toil for things which can not bring you a true abundant life? A great King understood a wonderful truth:1 Chronicles 29:12 (ASV)
12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou rulest over all; and in thy hand is power and might; and in thy hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
