As you attend worship this week and check out our faces, it’s easy to tell that the devil has been busy. The auditorium seats are not full of cheering winners but it’s appears that we are in teams locker room that just lost the super bowl. After being beat down by CNN, the constant negative news network and listening to the rappers moaning about “that man or that woman” and the OWN network trying to own your mind through the New Age religion, it’s a wonder that even a few Christians remember who they are.
Yep, you gotta to keep your head on straight if you want to activate the victory that Christ sealed on Calvary’s cross. You going to have to refuse to let those television nightly news pendents and even the negative folk around you define who you are and who you belong too.
It is time to flip the switch from negative thinking to positive God thinking.
Many Christians today leave their blessings on the table of life by exhibiting a negative attitude or spirit that pick up from the environment around them.God’s Word encourages us that just because we are in the world, we must not allow the world to be in us. In Philemon 1:6 (NASB)
6 and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake.
I want you to notice that Paul is encouraging Philemon that inspire of cultural conditions(he was a slave) that to be effective in sharing the gospel of Christ to those in his cultural environment, that he could not define himself negatively as the culture or others around him may have but that he must look in him for every good thing that Christ had promised and gave him after he was saved.
Notice that “every good thing” in Philemon was for Christ’s sake or the effective sharing of the gospel of Christ. Instead of defining himself as being “good or bad” based on the world view of the culture, if Philemon look at the fruit of the Spirit that he possessed, his soul was full of “every good thing” from God’s point of view. What we discover is that the world can have a negative view toward you while our God has a positive view toward you.
In order to defeat the negativity attacks by the world, flesh and the devil, we must rejoice in the fruit of the Spirit in us always by acknowledging the fruit daily.Galatians 5:22-23 (NASB)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Next we must fight the good fight of good thoughts. Paul is giving us the formula to win the thought battle in going on in our mind.Philippians 4:8 (NASB)
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
